Underwood - Reunion - Putnam

Gathered around the old hearth stone so dear to them all was the family of Nathan Underwood and wife, 3 ½ miles southeast of New Maysville on Saturday Feb 9 it being the 58th anniversary of their marriage; all the family were at home but one son. Nathan Underwood and Eliza Woolfington were married in Shelby Co Ky in 1837 and moved to this county the next fall and settled on the farm on which they still live. There has been born to them six sons and three daughters; in the family there are 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and there has never been a death in the family; Nathan Underwood is 79 and Mrs. Underwood 76 years of age. The reunion was a pleasant one and it was, indeed, a smile of happiness that gathered on the face of the old pioneers as the children gathered around the organ, after enjoying an elegant dinner and sang the songs of childhood days. May the Father of all decree that they may meet to enjoy many future happy anniversaries.
