PICKINS, James - house burns
Source: Greencastle Star 3 April 1880 p 8
A special from Cloverdale dated March 26 says: A tenement house, belonging to James Pickens on West Main Street burned at 12 o’clock last night. It was occupied by Charles Davis, who lost all of his household goods and wearing apparel. Loss on house, $300 on contents, $200. No insurance. Mr. Davis and wife were absent from home and had been for a week. The general belief is that the house was ransacked and then set on fire by the thieves.
