John Lewis and Rev. CM Long of Cayuga were here Tuesday. Mr. Lewis was the husband of the late Gladys Sackett and came to get possession of their little son, aged 9 months who has been an inmate of the home of Oscar Sackett since the death of its mother about three months ago. Mr. Sackett refused to give up the child and the father has brought suit in the Putnam circuit court for the possession of it!

A petition for writ of habeas corpus was filed in circuit court Wednesday morning in which John Lewis, of Cayuga, Indiana, asks for the possession of his child, now in charge of its grandparents Oscar and Anna Sackett of Cloverdale. Mr. Lewis sets forth in his petition that he married in October 1906, Miss Sackett and that a boy named Christian C. Lewis was born to them and that in August of this year the wife and mother died. That the child was left in the hands of the grandparets. That lately he went to them and made demand for the child and was refused. The petition states further than John Lewis is of good character and wealth sufficient to provide for the child. He asks the court to give him the custody of the child before the boy's affections are turned from him.
