HARRIS-assults - Rev. Mason

Greencastle Banner – The jury in the case of young Harris, who a short time since made the murderous assault on Rev. E. Mason, at Carpentersville brought in a verdict of assault and battery and that he be confined 10 days in the county jail and pay a fine of $30. It will be remembered that Harris first struck Mr. Mason with a club and afterward cut him with a knife and was prevented from killing him by the interference of bystanders. It seems to be a small offense in this county to attempt the assassination of a minster of the gospel. It is such juries that makes mob law a necessity sometimes.
