Newcastle, Ind Feb 5 – The trial of Jesse Freel, son of former City Engineer WS Freel for the murder of his wife, Clara VanZant Freel will start Feb 22 this date being set by Judge Jackson in the Circuit Court this afternoon on agreement of attorneys after one continuance.  Ralph Hunter of Cloverdale who was with Mrs. Freel on the night of Friday Oct 13 when she was shot and killed by her husband, also received four bullets in his body, one lodging under the spine, resulting in paralysis of the lower limbs.  Prosecutor Evans had been informed that Hunter will never be any better and he will be brought here on a stretcher to testify against Freel.  Former Representative WO Bernard will be assisted in Freel’s defense by WE Jeffry and Fred C. Sheriff Stroube has received summons from the Henry County Circuit Court for the appearance of Charles Hunter and son, Ralph Hunter in the Henry county court on Feb 22 at the trial of Jesse Freel.  Freel, it will be remembered shot and killed his wife while she was in company with young Hunter.  He also shot Hunter.  Hunter’s wounds were of such a nature that he probably will be a cripple for life.   ---transcribed by kbz
