Fillmore Bank Robberty -1933
Source: Greencastle Daily Banner Dec. 15. 1933
Sheriff Alva Bryan and state motor policeman Roy Newgent reported Friday morning that they knew nothing about a report coming from Danville that a man answering the description of William Fine of near Roachdale, suspected of robbing the Fillmore Bank Oct 25 had been slain in an attempted holdup at London, Ohio last Sunday. The Danville report stated that Fine’s parents had gone to London Thursday to view the body of the slain bandit. Fine and Mrs. Fern Gooch have been sought by Putnam County authorities since the Fillmore robbery and although they have been reported seen in the county several times they have evaded arrest. No affidavit charging them with the Fillmore arrest has been filed in the local court. – thanks so much to Cindy for this interesting piece
