DEMOTTE - Reunion
Source: Greencastle Banner, 20 June 1889 p 1
The family of Daniel and Mary DeMotte, who were for many
years residents of this city and both of whom died here, are having a reunion
at the home of Dr. JB DeMotte. There were originally 8 children in the family,
four sons, four daughters. The sons are all living and present at the reunion:
Rev. John DeMotte of Attica, Ind; James S. DeMotte of Des Moines, Iowa; Wm. H.
DeMotte of Jacksonville, Ill and Mark L. DeMotte of Valparaiso, Ind. The
daughters living and present are: Mrs. Jane Marshall of this city and Mrs. ME
Sunderland of Burlington Ia. The party
is augmented by the presence of NP Sunderland husband of Mrs. M.E. Sunderland;
Phebe T. wife of John B; Anna G wife of Wm. H; Margaret wife of James S. and
Lizzie C wife of Mark L. The reunion was suggested by Dr. DeMotte and his
hospitable home was literally turned over on last Saturday to these uncles and
aunt who had not met since 1874. They are still here. It rarely happens that a
family so large and so scattered and who have been so long away from the home
roof get together. The oldest, John B. is 71; the youngest, Mark L. is 56. According to reports from younger family
members of the family the reunion has been an exceedingly happy one. - kbz
