Greencastle since the fire has invested $2500 in a Champion Chemical Fire Engine. This is the engine for which GA Newton, of this place, is agent. Mr. Newton has had a proposition before our City Council for some
time for the supply of one similar to that purchased at Greencastle. The Champion operates on the same principal as the Babcock, but has some alterations which are claimed as great improvements. A test of the two was recently made at Jersey City, NJ, in which the Champion came out victorious, the verdict in its favor being unanimous. The Jersey City Journal’s account of this test is quite interesting and will be published next week. The principle of both the Champion and the Babcock is the application to fire of water charged with carbonic acid gas. ---transcribed by kbz
