Important litigation in Parke County - Rockville, Ind Nov 18 -- The case of Clarisa et al, vs. John F. Sutherlin et al has been on trial in the Parke Circuit Court for the past two weeks. 50,000 dollars were involved and the trial attracted considerable attention not only because of the amount involved, but also from the array of eminent counsel. Hanna & Hayes and Mayor Birch of Greencastle & Rice & Johnson of Rockville appeared for the plaintiffs, Hon CC Maton and Hon HC Lewis of Greencastle and Messrs. Puett and White of Rockville for the defendants.

The plaintiffs are daughters of John Briscoe, deceased who died in Greencastle, Nov 1870 and was quite aged and in them? at the time of his death. The defedants are John F. Sutherlin and Isaac N. Sutherlin, former proprietors of a large distillery in the edge of Parke County. Briscoe before his death had rented the Sutherlins a farm of something over 400 acres in Parke County (now valued at $100 per acre) and also entered into a written contract to sell them the farm on or before the 5th of March 1880 for the sum of $10,000 and also agreed with them that if they had any money that they wanted to let him have he would take the money and execute his notes with 6 % interest. On the 5th of March he was to take these notes, with accrued insterest as so much purchase money in . . . sorry, rest is gone
