Freight Brakeman Berry Branham, employed on the Indianapolis division of the Vandalia, is lying at the hospital suffering from injuries received at Reelsville yesterday. Branham is a brakeman on Train 23 and was making a coupling at Reelsville yesterday at 11 o’clock when catching his foot on the rail he fell under the wheels of the moving cars. The man’s legs were horribly mangled. He was brought to this city on passenger train No 21 and was taken to the hospital where his injuries were attended to by Dr. Rice, the Vandalia surgeon. Branham’s legs were so horribly mangled that amputation will be necessary and it is very doubtful if he will recover. The injured brakeman is a married man and resided on North 14th Street.

D.W Branham, the Vandalia brakeman run over Tuesday at Reelsville is still alive at Terre Haute. No operation has yet been performed. Branham insists that it shall not be done and the physicians say he can not possibly recover without it.

W.B. Vestal was in Terre Haute Wednesday and called on his nephew Berry Branham. The doctor stated to Mr. Vestal that he would notify him if Branham got any worse, and that if he did not get any worse no amputation would be necessary. The arteries were not injured.
