Source: Greencastle Herald 3 March 1928 p 1
Earl Bemis, age 35 years, an Indiana Portland Cement plant workman, is in the County Hospital with his entire back burned to a crisp as a result of an accident at the plant Saturday morning when his clothing caught fire when he backed up against a heating apparatus. The accident occurred about 7 o'clock Saturday morning when Bemis backed up to the heating device for warmth. When he was aware of the flames he became excited and started to run thus fanning the flames. All the clothing was burned from his back leaving the flesh in a crisp. Fellow workmen brought him to the office of Dr. W. M. McGaughey who dressed the burns and then took him to the County Hospital. He was badly burned from the neck to his hips but is expected to recover if no further complications develop. Bemis lives at Limedale.
