Born: Sept. 4, 1725 Lexington, Mass Service: Private and Sgt. in Rev. War Proof: Listed in Mass. Soldiers and Sailors. Died: 1814 buried near Martinsville, Ind Married: 1776. Second wife Mary Cozad Coons (widow of J. Coons). Children: Benjamin; Mercy; Martha; Jacob and John.

NOTE: Granted Morgan is one of the lower counties and might go back to 1814 but since in 1816 Indiana became a state I kind of find this one hard to believ. Then again I've done little research in Morgan so could be - kbz

Born: June 25, 1756 England Service: Enlisted as a private in Capt. Charles Craig’s Company, 1st Penn Line, Col. Edard Hand May 5, 1776. Was in battles of Brandywine, Trenton, Princeton, Fort Washington and White Plains. Name is recorded among privates in Penn Invalid Regt at Phil. In Oct and Nov 1777. Sept 12, 1778, he reenlisted to serve under Capt. Pearson at Phil, Col. Walter Stewart’s 2nd Regt, Col. Richard Butler’s 9th Regt. Proof: Penn. Archives, Series 2, vol. 10 and 11, and Series 3, vol. 23. Pension Claim W 9841. Died: April 9, 1841, Johnson Co., Ind. Buried across the county line in Morgan Co near Banta. Stone. Married Sally McNeal 1789. Children: Hugh; George; John; William; James; Robert; Mary; Elizabeth; Washington; a dau m. John Jordan; a dau m. Robert Branch.

In skirmish at Silver Creek. Enlisted July or Aug of 1781 served 3 mos. Under Lt. Blue and was at siege of Yorktown. Proof: Pension Claim S 17706 Died: Received last pension on April 1, 1836.

UTTERBACK, Benjamin.
Born: 1755, Fauquier Co, Vir Service: Enlisted at Fauquier Co, Vir Court House, Oct 1777. Served as Orderly-Sgt in Capt. Elias Edmond’s Company and Capt. Samuel Blackwell’s Company, Col. Thomas Marshall’s Vir. Regt. Marched to Williamsburg and from there fought in many battles in the south as a gunner in the artillery. Discharged at Hillsboro, NC 1780. Proof: Pension record. The original discharge papers are now in Virginia State Archives at Richmond, Vir. Died: 1842. Buried on Cherry Farm 5 miles East of Gosport, Ind. Government marker placed by Miss Ura Sanders. Married: 1780 Elizabeth Snelling. Children: James Benjamin (1790-1836), m. 1820 Marian Collett; Nancy; Joel. Collected by Mr. William I. Utterback, 1810 Kite Ave, Huntington, West Virginia.
