Wednesday evening a drum and fife corps was giving a concert in front of Graham’s Busy Store on Washington Street. An old soldier stood by listening. “Let me have a try at that,” he said to the fife player. How he did play. It made people sit up and take notice. A big crowd rapidly collected who gave him hearty applause. The old soldier was Joel Westfall of New Richmond. He served during the war in Co D 63rd Indiana Infantry under Col. IN Styles of Lafayette. He still has the fife he played during the war and proudly exhibited to the crowd.
