Vyse - Lou - attempted suicide - Montgomery InGenWeb Project

“I’ve just taken enough morphine to kill me and I’m going to die.” Such were the words of Mrs. Lou Vyse Friday night, as at about 9:30 she walked into the home of Mrs. Farley, on North Washington Street. The woman lay down on a couch and as she fell she dropped an empty box that had contained morphine. “Zeb” Farley, who resides with his mother was at home and at once ran out of the house. He was met by Officer Patton who, after directing him to go after a doctor, went into the house. He found the woman to be suffering intensely, but of course he could do nothing until the arrival of the doctor. Dr. Dennis responded, soon followed by Dr. Sigmond. They at once gave Mrs. Vyse a hypodermic injection which acted as a strong emetic. The woman was soon relieved of her poison and later in the night was out of danger.  Mrs. Vyse’s condition is pathetic. She formerly lived at Russellville and about a year ago moved here. She did not like it here but being in bad health she went back there where she has a son. It seems that he would not take her in and she has since been very despondent. She has frequently threatened to commit suicide and that night it looked for a time as though she would be successful. - kbz
