Stanley - Ollie - sent to reform school

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday, Friday, 1 November 1901

Ollie Stanley, who was arrested last Friday charged with having stolen some clothing from Lola Newton’s north end resort, appeared before Judge West on Monday and entered a plea of guilty to the charge of petit larceny. She gave her name as Ollie Stanley and her age as nineteen years. She has been married and has one child living in Lebanon, two being dead. She stated that the goods she took were only worth about $10, though the Newtown woman claimed they were valued at $26.75. The judge ruled that she be taken to the reform school for women at Indianapolis for a term of not less than one year. The woman wanted to go to the school, stating that it was preferable to the life she had been living. She appeared in court in a fetching blue Mother Hubbard, low neck and short sleeves and caused quite a flutter among the members of the bar with her dazzling smile.
