Source: New Richmond Record 16 July 1914 p 2
The grocery store of J. E. Rickey & Sons at Linden was discovered afire at 10:20 o’clock Monday night. Mr. Rickey had closed the store shortly after 9 o’clock. The doors were burst open by the fire fighters and a bucket brigade fought the flames but without success. The stock of goods was almost entirely destroyed, entailing a loss of §2,000 with some insurance. Charles Stover, one of the firefighters, had his right arm badly cut by flying glass, the veins and artery severed, and Dr. Rhea, the attending physician in his automobile hurried him to Culver Union hospital in Crawfordsville. He is getting along nicely.
