Palin, Amos - captured

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal 14 Dec 1900 p 1

Amos Palin, the Newtown crazy man, who shot at his brother Tuesdav, was later captured at Romney and taken to the Covington jail, where he Wednesday attacked Sheriff Miller and hammered him up in elegant style.  Amos Palin was arrested in Lafayette about a year ago for attempting to cash a forged check at the Perrin National bank. The check was presented to the John O. Perrin, whose suspicion was aroused by the language used by the young man. He was inclined to talk a good deal and made a number of statements that did not strike Mr. Perrin just right. By telephoning to New Richmond, it was found that the check was worthless, and the young man was placed in the hands of the police. When it was discovered that his mind was unbalanced, the officials declined to prosecute him and he was released from custody. - kbz
