Miss Grace Robb's suitor SHOOTS Self

Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal Saturday, 2 July 1892

Postal Clerk VanNette passed through here last evening on the south bound train, having left St. Joseph, Mich., in the morning. Mr. VanNette, while the train stopped at the station, hurriedly told of a tragedy which occurred in St. Joe just awhile before his train started, the details of which will be of particular interest in Crawfordsville.

It seems that Miss Grace Robb, the daughter of John B. Robb, and a girl known to nearly everybody here, has been living with her sister, Mrs. John Krug, in St. Joe, lately. A young man of that place fell desperately in love with her and met her upon every possible occasion. Neither Mr. nor Mrs. Krug favored his suite, however, and he finally went almost insane over the matter. Yesterday he called at the Krug’s but was ordered to leave. Wild with despair he rushed out into the yard and placing a revolver to his head fired. He then staggered back into the house and fell at the feet of Miss Grace in an unconscious condition. When Mr. VanNette left St. Joe he was thought to be dying. No verification of the story is found in the metropolitan papers today but Mr. VanNette’s story was told in all soberness. Later details will be awaited with great interest.
