LADOGA Downtown has FIRE - 1899

Source: New Ross Mail 27 Oct 1899 p 5

Word reached here early Wednesday morning that fire had broken out at Ladoga which was consuming the business portion of the south side of Main Street, but later the report come that the furniture store of George Case and the Odd Fellows’ hall above it had been completely burned out, entailing a loss of several thousand dollars to the parties affected.  The clothing room of Ed Ashby under the IOOF hall was also burned out, but it is reported that most of his goods were carried out and saved.  The fire was reported to have originated in the work room of the furniture store.  This is a regretful loss to Ladoga.  The Odd Fellows had recently bought and paid for their room.  There is no report as to whether other buildings damaged or not.  ---kbz
