Source: Lafayette Weekly Courier, Fri, Feb 12, 1847 ·Page 2

The Crawfordsville Review of the 6th inst. says: "We learn with regret that the Store of Mr. H. P. Isaacs in Parkersburg was entirely consumed by fire on the morning of the 31st ult. [Sunday last] together with the Saddlery shop of Mr. D. P. Freeman, the dwelling house of Mr. Wm. Shepherd, and the dwelling house of Mr. Isaacs, occupied by John Hester. But two sacks of Coffee and one of flaxseed was saved, of all his stock, in consequence of the quantity of powder he had on hand rendering it insecure for any one to venture in. The fire originated from a wooden box, in which hot ashes had been placed in the morning. The loss is estimated at five thousand dollars, of which Mr. Isaac's loss is about four thousand. No insurance."
