Grimes - Fred P - resigns Police

Crawfordsville, Ind – Fred P. Grimes resigned as Crawfordsville Police Chief Thursday after 22 years of service.  Mayor Carroll O. Beeson named as his successor Otto Bierderstedt who has been on the force 27 years.  Grimes had been chief for two years.

James P. Grimes, chief of police of Crawfordsville has written to local officers describing two men, aged 23 and 24 respectively who were arrested there Thursday. They had a satchel full of cutlery, knives and forks some of Rogers’ make.  The men gave the names of Charles Morris and Arthur Wilson. The police say that two fellows answering the description were in Logansport a few days ago but no thefts were reported.

Crawfordsville, Ind July 15 – Two men giving their names as Hubert Robbins and Gordon G. Napier were arrested here today charged with robbing the home of ex-Chief of Police James P. Grimes. They denied their guilt, but after being separated in jail agreed on one point ; that they had been members of the crew of the battle ship Connecticut now in drydock at Brooklyn and that they had sold their uniforms in NY before starting West on a 10 day leave of absence. They are believed to be deserters and the naval recruiting officers at Chicago have been notified.
