Civilian Conservation Corps recruits who left Lafayette for Fort Knox, Ky to be conditioned for service in forests and reclamation sites, included the following from nearby counties: Montgomery County recruits were: Byron F. O’Dell, Frederick J. McCroy, Joseph E. Lanum, Paul C. Delano, Warren B. Brann, William A. Newlin, Eunice L. VanCleave, John D. Tate, Frank N. Dowden, George W. Pritchett, Henry Fields, Fred T. Newlin, Jewel Chaney and William E. Southern.
