Thursday night Deputy Marshall Snodgrass of Ladoga came to Muncie with a warrant for the arrest of Albert Brewer who was wanted in his city on a delicate charge preferred by a young lady living there. Brewer was arrested at his boarding house and landed in jail where he spent the night. Yesterday morning Brewer asked to be taken to his boarding house so as to change his clothes and the request was granted by Mr. Snodgrass who kindly consented to accompany his prisoner. The officer had known young Brewer from his infancy and placed a great deal of confidence in him, hence did not deem it necessary to watch the young man while he was in his room. After some time had elapsed, Mr. Snodgrass began to marvel at the prolonged absence of Brewer and thought a little investigation might be in order. He climbed the stairway to the room that had been Brewers and found that the young man had gotten out on the roof of the kitchen whence he had jumped to the ground, a distance of 10’ and taken a sudden and undignified departure. The Ladoga officer slowly wended his way to the depot and took the next train home reflecting on the errors following misplaced confidence. He made no effort to recapture his prisoner. The local officers volunteered to care for the prisoner until the time for the train to leave but Snodgrass would not accept their offer.
