Beard, John - Inst of Blind trustee

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Thursday, 10 April 1873

Col. John Beard of Crawfordsville, trustee of the Institute for the Blind, gave us a call this morning. He yesterday filed his oath as trustee for the fourth term, having been in office twelve years. He is now in his 79th year. He came to Indiana Territory in 1811, and has lived in Montgomery County 50 years. More than half a century ago he was commissioned justice of the peace in Wayne County. Mr. Beard is still hale, hearty and spry for a person of his age. In that early day in Wayne County was considered unhealthy, as also the rich region between White Water and White River. Crawfordsville being this and dry was the point to which all victims of the ague fled. Mr. Beard being shaken out of Wayne County, settled at Crawfordsville, and congratulates himself on not having had a shake since.—Indianapolis Evening Journal
