Bailey - Roscoe - attempts suicide - Montgomery InGenWeb Project

Roscoe Bailey, son of Napoleon Bailey, formerly a resident of this place but for several years a resident of Danville, Ill., attempted suicide by taking an overdose of morphine on Thursday of last week. An account of the incident given in one of the Danville  papers is in detail, that Roscoe had been arrested on suspicion of having been connected in a hold-up of the Water Company office in that city, but when taken to the police station for identification, parties who saw the robbers said that Bailey was not the man. But following this Roscoe seems to have taken the arrest to heart and felt terribly humiliated, and decided that a good dose of morphine would put it alright. The account also infers that family troubles may have had something to do with his determination to shuffle off, which however was blocked by the early arrival of a physician who managed to hold him back from the river’s brink and prevented his leaping into its turbulent waters.
