Alexander George - home destroyed

Source: CWJ 1 March 1855 p 2

On Monday morning last, the dwelling of George Alexander, the Recorder was destroyed by fire. Most of the furniture was saved by the vigorous exertions of the citizens. Mr. Alexander having been so unfortunate as to lose a leg, this misfortune comes more heavily upon him. A subscription has been raised to assist him in rebuilding. The citizens of town generally subscribe liberally and we trust our citizens in the country will now take pleasure in lending a helping hand. – kbz
