White - Gaughan (Vaughn?) difficulty in NM

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Thursday, 17 July 1873

New Market has been in a “stew” for some time past, on account of a difficulty between the families of Anthony Gaughan and William K. White. It seems that Gaughan and White’s children got into a fight about some trivial matter, and Mr. White hearing of the difficulty made his way in an angry mood to where Mrs. Gaughan was, struck her in the face, crushed her down on the railroad and choked her till she was released from his grasp by some persons who interfered in her behalf. Mr. White was arrested, proved guilty and paid a fine of $5 and cost. He then had Mrs. Gaughan arrested and bound over to keep the peace. Mrs. Gaughan has commenced suit in the circuit court against White for the assault and battery, and lays her damages at one thousand dollars.
