Weisner - Mahlon - wagon

Source: Crawfordsville Star 7 Feb 1878 p 1

On Monday of this week Mahlon Weisner, a well known citizen living about a half mile south of Darlington, met with a terrible accident in about the following manner: he was standing on the double-trees of his wagon adjusting a load of wood, when the mule team attached to the wagon became frightened and ran away.  In the flight they caught Mr. Weisner between the wagon and a beech tree, crashing the unfortunate man’s left leg to a pulp. Drs. Briggs and Ristine of this city and Drs. Naylor, Griffith and Crose of Darlington were called upon and amputated the left foot above the ankle. He is doing well.
