Vansicles robbed 1895
Source: CWJ 6 Sept 1895
Another burglary occurred last Fri and while successful was a failure when the results possible are compared with the results attained. Sat when the family of IN VanSickle of S Grant awoke they found the back door wide open. Satisfied that it had not been so upon their retirement Friday an investigation was instituted and it was found that the house had been ransacked by burglars. A number of trifling valuable were secured in several of the rooms and in the room of William Bromley and wife the thieves secured Mr. Bromley’s watch, Mrs. Bromley’s jewelry and a scarf pin belonging to Mr. VanSickle. Mr. VanSickles’s room was not entered and that is where the thieves missed it. His pantaloons hung over the door and in one pocket was a wallet containing over $50. No one about the house was aroused by the visit and the burglars left no clew as to their identity. It is supposed, however, that the crime was effected by local sneak thieves.
