Phillips - shoots neighbor cow
Source: Crawfordsville Star June 18, 1885 p 3
Young Phillips, a beardless youth from Whitlock, who has been in jail for several months awaiting trial for shooting a neighbor’s cow in a seaking spirit of revenge, was called on by his wife the other day. Phillips is about 21 and wife is a good 40. She was the cause of his arrest and jealousy prompted it. They effected a reconciliation and the way they kissed and hugged through the jail bars made John Coffee remark that he was willing to be hung right away if that was the only way he could get away from them.
