Mr. and Mrs. John Miles celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a family dinner on Sunday April 20. During the day over 100 friends and relatives called to offer their congratulations. Mr. and Mrs. Miles were married four miles north of Waveland, 50 years ago April 21, 1874 which was Mr. Miles 25th birthday. At that time Mr. Miles was engaged in farming but a few years later they moved to Waveland where Mr. Miles became engaged in Masonry and coal dealing. They are the parents of 9 children, six sons and three daughters, all of whom are living except one daughter, Mrs. Fry. They are also grandparents of several grandchildren. Mrs. Miles is 69 years old and Mr. Miles is 75 years old. The children and grandchildren who were present fore the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Lewis; Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Lewis; Mr. and Mrs. Bert McGaughey and family; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Miles and family of Indiana Harbor; Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Miles of Hammond; Mr. and Mrs. Mack Madison of Port Austin, Michigan; Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Miles and family of Waveland. The children who were unable to be present were Roy Miles of Michigan; Morris Miles of Stanton and Lewis Miles of New York. - kbz
