McFeely, Tessie - shot

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly, Crawfordsville, May 9, 1891

There was an exciting time at Smartsburg Wednesday night.  The L.O.G.T. held an enthusiastic meeting in the school house, and after it was over the young folks very promptly coupled off and started home through the soft and melting starlight.  Walter Wisehart offered his escort to Miss Tessie McFeeley and it was graciously accepted.  Shortly after leaving the building, Walter drew his revolver from his hip pocket, whether to scare spooks or keep off rivals it is not known, but in some way he dropped it and of course it went off.  The ball took effect in the calf of Miss McFeeley's leg inflicting a serious and painful wound.  Dr. Griffith, of this city, was called and dressed the wound, and reports the young lady resting as well as possible under the circumstances while her unhappy escort is inconsolable.  Miss McFeeley is a girl of grit and when she was shot, did not even whimper, but coolly gave directions to the wildly excited young man as to what to do. – thanks Kim H
