Jas. Patterson & Son - Montgomery InGenWeb Project

A daring burglary was attempted on the store of Jas. Patterson & Son at Crawfordsville on Thursday night of last week. The burglar had partially effected an entrance, when one of the proprietors sleeping in the room gave him a leaden dose from a revolver to carry away with him. The thief was tracked some  distance by his blood but was not finally caught. We may now expect the country to be full of thieves and murderers.  The difficulties in the South and the reckless and daring course of the Disunionists appears to act as a license to dishonest men and knaves.  Already a lawlessness and recklessness prevails in our country which is truly alarming to the law-abiding and peace-loving citizens.
