Hurley - Frank - gas burns

Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal Tuesday, 22 November 1892

Yesterday afternoon the family of Judge Hurley became aware from the odor that the natural gas was leaking somewhere. Investigation developed the fact that the fire in the furnace had been extinguished in some way without the gas being turned off. Frank ran down to the furnace room to shut off the gas, but as he opened the door the gas in some manner ignited and an explosion followed. Frank was thrown back ten feet against the wall and fell in a fainting condition on the floor. He was picked up by the family and medical assistance given at once. His mustache and eyebrows were burned off as was also a greater part of his hair. He was badly burned and it will be some time before he will be able to get out again. -s
