Henry Clay Lodge, No. 288, Knights of Pythias was instituted at Crawfordsville January 16, 1891. Her charter members numbered seventeen, five of whom were former members of other lodges. Of these, six have taken out cards of membership, leaving eleven of the charter members in good standing in the lodge at this time. These seventeen charter members, the first five being the members by card from other lodges with the name of their former lodge set opposite, are as follows:

The first lodge home was in the 2nd story of what was the old Plunkett frame building now occupied by TM Shotts’ blacksmith shop and stood then on the se corner of Washington and Wabash streets. The lodge moved into its own lodge hall in 1892 in the second story of the Hollin block and this it continued to occupy until in March 1911 when it moved into its present handsome Pythian home. Its second dedication of its own lodge home occurred with fitting ceremonies on April 28 1911. Total number of members taken in since the lodge was instituted is 273. Total number in good standing at this time, 190. The lodge has been favored in quite a remarkably low death rate only 10 members having died. The amount paid out for sick benefits and funeral total $3,300. The net resources of the lodge at this time are about $10,000.
