Carter - James, Frances -50

Source: Crawfordsville Review Oct 17, 1913 p 1

Yesterday was the golden wedding anniversary of James M. Carter and wife, one half mile east of Lapland and about 70 guests partook of the hospitalities of the Carter home and helped them to celebrate this interesting event. James M. Carter is the son of Othias and Arthminta Carter who were among the first settlers of Scott Township, their homestead being one-mile west of Parkersburg.  Mrs. Carter was Frances Warbritton a daughter of Peter and Phoebe Warbritton who were also among the first settlers in the south part of the county. They were married at the Warbritton home on the 16th day of October 1863, and moved to their own home, located where the town of Raccoon now stands. They moved to Missouri and resided there a year and then in 1873, located on the farm where they now reside. James Carter has been one of the most successful stock raisers of that community and the home maintained by he and his estimable wife has been long known for its hospitality. At the celebration yesterday, felicitating addresses were made by CL Airhart, county recorder of Putnam County and Dr. WF Batman of Ladoga. Among the guests present were Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Warbritton, who celebrated their golden wedding seven years ago and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Vancleave who celebrated a similar event two years ago.
