Canine - HR - kidnaps his child

Two years ago the Circuit Court divorced HR Canine then of Tipton County and his wife, daughter of John N. Hayes of Ladoga but made no disposition as to who should have possession of the child. The divorced woman however kept the child and went home to her father where she lived until her recent marriage to Wm. A. Brown, an estimable and well-to-do-farmer of Walnut Twp. Two weeks ago Canine made his appearance on the scene and abducted the little girl from home, spiriting her away no one knew whither. While in the city on the 4th of July JN Hayes heard that the child had been left with Canine’s mother near Browns Valley. Mrs. Brown immediately got out papers under a writ of habeus corpus and Deputy-Sheriff Heaton took possession of the child till the trial took place before Judge Thomas on Tuesday afternoon. The defendant failed to appear at the trial and the custody of the child was given to the mother. Canine is described as an indolent sort of vagabond and seems to have only wanted the child to annoy the mother. It is said he himself remarked he would not have known it had it not been pointed out to him. The case may probably come up before the next term of court but it is not probable
