Last Monday Mr. and Mrs. John C. Bowman, living four miles northeast of here, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Nearly all of the members of the family were present, numbering forty five.
John C. Bowman was born in Augusta County, Va., Nov. 3, 1827, and came to Indiana when nine years of age. He was married to Mary Ellen Lockridge Feb. 18, 1851. Mrs. Bowman was born in Montgomery County, Indiana, Nov. 14, 1833. To them were born eight children, the six living being William H., James A., Frank M., Oliver W., Lucinda Armstrong, and Georgia Hunt, and two dead, Elizabeth Swisher and Ollie Benefield. They have twenty three grandchildren, twenty one being present, and three great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Bowman were each presented a handsome willow chair. Before departing they were photographed by Nicholson, of Crawfordsville. -s
