RAMSEY, Mary Cave
Mary CAVE RAMSEY vs. C'ville Schools
Source: Waveland Independent Waveland, Montgomery County, Indiana July 25, 1930
Mary Cave Ramsey sues for job There is a rule in this County which prevents married women from teaching in the schools. There have been a few exceptions but generally, "Mrs." was a complete bar. There has not been much reason back of this, as many of the married women were excellent teachers and gave at least as good if not better attention to the work than the unmarried ones. Now the courts are being asked to decide whether this regulation is legal. Mrs. Mary Cave Ramsey is suing the city of Crawfordsville because she lost her position when she got married. Had this not been done she would have been entitled to a permanent contract under the tenure law. She ought to have it as marriage has never been considered a crime in the eye of the law
