FREEZE CEMETERY

Freeze cemetery was begun about 1846. This small cemetery is located 1-1/12 miles south of Lagro on Highway 524. GPS location: N40.49.113 - W085.43.094. Approximately 13 graves were removed to Center Grove Cemetery in 1883 by Isaac Freeze. One of the stones was his mother, Catherine. The cemetery was recorded in May of 1975 by members of the Wabash Junior High School History Club. In August of 2004 Linda and Don Jervis recorded the cemetery again and found several stones not previously recorded. The following is a list of those known to be buried in the cemetery today.

CLEAVELAND, E. LIZZIE N. died November 16, 1869 age unknown.
     We loved this tender little one and would have welled her stay
     But our Father’s will be done. She shines in endless day.

COLLINS, JESSIE D.  son of J.S. & M.C. died 2-11-1863 age 19 days
     LEWIS T.  son of L.G. & H.M. died 10-14-1851 age 0-2-13

GRIMES, NANCY  wife of David died 2-14-1846 age 29-1-13

HEDGER, HESTER E.  dau of W. & S.E. died 12-8-1852 age 11-11-23             
     ROZY BELL  dau of W. & S.E. died 12-9-1852 age 4-10-5

HURLEY, CATHARINE  wife of Zachariah who departed this life 12-11-1842 aged 40-4-0
     JANE  wife of Robert died 7-13-1852 age 37-8-9
     JOEL  died 3-13-1866 age unknown, Masonic emblem on stone
     ZACHARIAH  died 9-?-1854 aged 58-0-24

JACKSON, MARY wife of Jackson died 10-24-1851 age 73-2-20  (Her first husband
     was Thomas Hurley)

MAXTON, ALEXANDER, CPL, Co G 130th Ind Inf, died at Lagro 3-18-1865

STANLEY, SAMUEL, PVT,  Co. K 101st Ind Inf (discharged 2-6-1863)

WISE, ANDREW  son of D & M died 1-6-1866 age 1-6-0
