Died of pneumonia September 12, 1918, in hospital, Toul, France. Buried in cemetery at Toul, France.

Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo.; assigned to Battery F, 17th Field Artillery, 2nd Division. Transferred to Camp Robinson, Neb. Ordered to France in December, 1917. Wounded in action at Chateau Thierry, near Belleau Woods, and died July 5, 1918. Buried in village cemetery at LaFerte, France.

Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company F, 104th Ammunition Train. Sailed for France July 4, 1918. Gassed in battle of Chateau Thierry. Returned to U.S. November 9, 1918. Died of tuberculosis November 5, 1920, Lafayette, Ind., as result of being gassed. Buried in Grand View Cemetery, West Lafayette, Ind.

Assigned to Signal Service. Died of pneumonia on board transport Bushnell March 24, 1919, in European waters. Place of burial, possibly at sea.

BROWN, Ivan Ellsworth

Son of Emanuel and Anna Brown; born May 10, 1892, Tippecanoe County, Ind. Later moved to Pulaski County, Ind., where he settled on a farm. Living in Iowa when he entered service in April 1918, Parry, Iowa, Sent to Camp Travis, Tex. Overseas in June 1918; assigned to Company F, 359th Infantry. Reported missing in action September 26, 1918. A later report announced he was killed on that day. (Burial place unknown.)

BURNS, John Vernon

Son of Edwin A. (deceased) and Ella M. Burns; born November 21, 1892, Lafayette, Ind. Moved to Indianapolis in 1904. Bookkeeper. Entered service in August, 1917, Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind. Assigned to Aviation Corps. Trained at Wright Field, and McCooks Field, Ohio; and Kelly Field, Tex. Sent to Carlstrom Field, Fla., where he served as an Instructor. Killed in aeroplane accident March 24, 1919, Carlstrom Field, Fla. Buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Indianapolis, Ind.

CAMILLA, Sister M.

Born December 5, 1871 (place of birth unknown). Came to Lafayette, Ind. in 1898. In charge of office at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, Ind. During the influenza epidemic many of the soldiers from Purdue Camp were brought to the Hospital. In her charitable and unselfish work in behalf of these afflicted soldiers, she contracted the epidemic and died November 29, 1918. Buried with military honors as an auxiliary army nurse, in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lafayette, Ind.

Sent to Camp Johnston, Fla.; assigned to Field Remount, Squad No. 325, Base Remount Depot No. 1. Went overseas September 6, 1918. Died of pneumonia November 17, 1918, Base Hospital No. 101, St. Nazaire, France. Buried, St. Nazaire, France.

Pickens, Fla.; assigned to 1st Company, Coast Artillery Corps. Discharged February 7, 1918, by reason of surgeon's certificate of disability on account of tuberculosis. Died at Lafayette, Ind. May 5, 1918. Buried in Isley Cemetery, Tippecanoe County, Ind.

Grave located in the Argonne American Cemetery, October 1, 1920. Awarded Croix de Guerre with bronze and silver star.

Contracted disease in prison, and died December 22, 1918, Vichey, France. Buried at Vichey.

In combat service during campaign of 1918. Went into Germany with Army of Occupation. Returned to U.S. in May, 1919, sick with tuberculosis caused from effects of gas. Sent to government hospital, Ft. Bayard, N. M., where he died February 6, 1921. Buried, West Lafayette, Ind.

Promoted to Major. Died of pneumonia May 28, 1919, Red Cross Hospital No. 3, Paris, France. Buried in Suresnes Cemetery, near Paris.

Survived by widow, Marie McGrath, Lafayette, Ind.

Instructor in Aerial Observation at Chatillon-sur-Seine, where he was accidentally killed September 4, 1918. Buried at St. Thibault, France. Survived by widow, Ruth Aldrich Rothenberger, Lafayette, Ind.

Son of George W. and Rhoda C. Shaffer; born May 6, 1896, Clarkshill, Tippecanoe County, Ind. Farmer. Rejected twice because of physical disability. Entered service August 30, 1918. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to Evacuation Hospital No. 28, Detachment Headquarters. Died of pneumonia August 13, 1918, Camp Sherman. Buried in Salem Cemetery, Tippecanoe County, Ind. Trained at Camp Ross, Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Ill., at which place he died of pneumonia September 26, 1918. Survived by widow, Murial Vernon, Clarkshill, Ind.

Serving as litter bearer when killed in action October 31, 1918, Olsene, Belgium. Buried at Olsene, Belgium near road Deynze, Courtrai.
