"Walnut Hill Cemetery is quite small and, in the years before the Wabash Ordnance Plant bought the land, it was almost farmed out of existence. It has been known also as Little because of the pioneer CHARLES LITTLE family, who entered the land. It was later owned by John Fortune and last by Owen Downs. There is a large stone in the center of the plot erected to RACHEL LITTLE 1800-1881. There must be more LITTLE graves, but if so the stones are gone. There is a stone to JAMES MOORE 1774-1848, which means he was born two years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence."

Sherwood Reunion

August 29th was an occasion of a reunion of the children and friends of Grandpa Sherwood. They met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Sherwood on South 6th street and enjoyed a splendid dinner on the grass
in the yard. The day was cool and pleasant which added much to the occasion. After the dinner hour the time
was spent in good old fashioned visiting and listening to phonograph music. Miss Lorraine Sherwood took a number of kodak pictures which will no doubt be interesting mementos of the occasion. Those present were

One of Vermillion Township's most honored citizens, William L. Little, who held many positions of trust for whose family the Little schoolhouse was named, told of his grandfather, Charles S. Little bringing his wife and four children from Ohio to Vermillion County by keel boat. While coming down the Ohio River, on September 16, 1830, another child was born and was named Rowena. Twenty-five years later Rowen married John Castle, of the Quaker neighborhood, and became the mother of a daughter, Harriet, who became Mrs. Josiah Bonwell of Dana. After Mr. Castle's death, Rowena was married to Frank Walthall. The keel boat continued to the mouth of the Wabash and poled (with some help) up to the Vermillion River and up it a mile to Eugene. They left the boat there and went ten miles further west and entered land in Illinois. Later in 1835 they moved to Vermillion Township and entered land.
