Vevay Cemetery, Section 2
A - D

Map

This section, the largest in the cemetery, contains the oldest commercial stones found in the whole cemetery, as well as some very recent ones. Notes in red are made by me, some on my relatives and some of the data was gleaned from the excellent book "The Dufour Saga 1796 - 1942," by Julie LeClerc Knox. -- Sheila Kell, Transcr.

Due to its size, this section has been divided for easier page loading:

A large monument records the life John Dumont:
Here lie the mortal remains of John Dumont who was born in New Brunswick, N.J. Jan. 8, A. D. 1787 and married Julia L. Corey in Greenfield N. Y., Aug. 12, 1812. He settled in Vevay Ind. A.D. 1813 where he continued to reside until his death, which occured Feb. 2, 1871.
He was:
A learned, able and upright lawyer, a capable courteous and incorruptable office, a wise far seeing patriotic legislature who preferred the general weal to his cause of education, morality and freedom. He thus filled all the stations in life to which he was called with advantage to others and honor to himself. It is not in mortals to command success - But he did more he deserved it.
