Source: Per Joe Rheinhart - 10--22-00:
He was last paid for August 31, 1862 then is shown as deserting at Bowling Green.  His company mustered out of service on 9/14/1864. Since he was listed as deserted, there was no date listed  for muster out. Soldiers were given an annual allowance for clothing. Apparently he did not pay for his or he deserted
and took the clothing and equipment with him (he owed Govt. for it).    He was one of 18 men in his company listed as deserting.  I have found that  the  list  of deserter in the Ky. Adjutant General's Report
is  not correct in every instance. A good portion were listed because of paperwork foul ups. Some men were discharged and because the regiment had moved to a new camp word did not get back to the regiment. The 5th was also known as the Louisville Legion.
