Mrs. Maude Lady, 812 South Illinois Street received a telegram from the War Department late Monday stating that her son, Pfc Robert L.. Simmerman had been killed in action in the European theater of war. The telegram read: “The Secretary of War desires me to express his deep regret that your son, Pfc. Robert L. Simmerman was killed in action January first in Luxembourg. Confirming letter follows:” on Jan 1 in Luxenbourg, Con (obviously this is wrong – part missing or …)– signed Dunlop, Acting Adjutant General.
Pvt. Simmerman was in the infantry and was with General Patton’s Third Army. He had been in military service since May 1943.
