Colonel Joel G. O’Neal from birth in 1899 in Greencastle Indiana to his enlistment in 1918 to his retirement from USAF. He became a military pilot in 1920. He served in WW 1 and WW II. Had an illustrious career, including Deputy Chief of Staff of Carrier Forces. Planned and oversaw the big jump in Germany where a 5000 plane Armada roared enroute to Wesel and where 5,814,000 pounds of men, weapons and equipment were dropped in a 2 mile X 3 mile area.
Born 3 Nov 1899, Greencastle, son of Joseph Leander and Philadelphia Belle Eudaly. Married Marian E. O’Neal. At least one child, Joela Gayle. Buried Ft Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio (dfied 27 Aug 1983) Bexar Co Tx

Joel G. O’Neal, Col USAF, Retired of San Antonio, TX born Nov 3, 1899 in Greencastle, IN died Aug 27, 1983. He was a member of the Daedallions, served in WWI and WWII served as a command pilot in WWII, served at Normandy, Ardennes, Alsace, Central Europe, Northern France and Rhineland. Medals received, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Air Medal, American Defense Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, European African Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, Army Commandation Ribbon, American Campaign Medal, Croix De Guerre with Palm and wounded in action near Wessel, Germany. Attended Air Service Pilots School, Air Service Observation School, Air Corp Tactical School, Air Corp Technical School and Maintenance School. Retired Dec 31, 1947 after 31 years of dedicated service. Survivors, wife, Marion Lyon O’Neal, daughters, Sandra O’Neal Perales of San Antonio, Patricia O’Neal Deckert of Karanes City, Tx; Joela O’Neal Jenkins, San Antonio, Tx; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren, sisters: Iva Eudaly Craver; Mildred Kekar and Dorothy Sykes. Funeral services Tuesday Aug 30 at the Main Post Chapel at Fort Sam Houston, Tx. Interment with full military honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
