Nathaniel was born in Petersburg, Virginia. in 1768 in accordance with the source listed below; however, if you figure his age when he enlisted I don't think this is correct (age 7?). The latter 1780 are believable.

He enlisted in Prince Edward County in September of 1775; again in March of 1776 and the fall of 1776, probably for 3 months tours. All total the Indiana roster says he served 1 year and six months, probably have more time after 1780.

At one time, he was with Col. Parker of the 1st Virginia Militia who were body guards for General Washington. The battles he listed on pension papers included Trenton; Princeton; Brandywine; Monmouth; Gates Defeat; Yorktown. Pension #W9821.

He passed away 16 August 1832 and is buried on a farm east of Greencastle, in 1981 owned by the Goldberry family.

He and his wife, ELizabeth Sneed were parents of at least 7 children: Alexander; Amelia; Elizabeth; John W; Benjamin; Lucinda and Susan.

Nathaniel Cunningham – Weik’s History p 217 – born 28 Aug 1755 Chester County, PA – applied for Pension Putnam County 23 April 1835 but this does not jive with the Roster of Soldiers & Patriots that says he passed away 16 August 1832
