Militia Company from Roachdale - Putnam

Major Fee returned Wednesday night from Roachdale where he mustered in the new militia company. He speaks very highly of the new organization and expects some great things of them.  56 men were mustered in with some twelve more to come later.  13 men of the company are over 6’ in height.  In the election which followed the muster, John Morris of this city was unanimously chosen Captain of the organization, Gus Bettis, 1st Lt. and Robert Bettis 2nd Lt. The captain will in a short time move to Roachdale and locate in the dentistry business and the new company was very glad to secure his experience in the work. ~~~transcribed by kbz
