REEVES'

Source: Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana, Banner-Times 6 October 1897 p1

When court adjourned at noon yesterday, Mrs. Reeves, the defendant in the cause of Reeves vs. Reeves, divorce, went into Birch's store to eat her dinner. While there Miss Alice Gardiner, one of the witnesses in the case, came in to the store and walking up to the place where Mrs. Reeves was sitting leaned forward as if to whisper something to her but instead poked her violently in the ribs. Friends separated the two women and Mrs. Reeves was taken to Sheriff Bunten's residence where she still remains, having been unable to appear during the trial yesterday afternoon as the result of the encounter. The suit which gave rise to this difficulty was nauseating in the extreme and Judge McGregory refused to hear it through, remarking that the next divorce tried before him would be heard behind closed doors. It is estimate that almost the entire population of Madison Twp. attended the trial.
