Lakin & Scott Hardware - October 1, '96,Mayes & Lakin succeeded Ross & Gott in the hardware business, then located where Barnes now is. Prior to this time Mr. Lakin was in the blacksmithing and implement business for 14 years. In the spring of '98 Mayes & Lakin moved their stock to the present location in the K of P building, continuing business until
the first of this year when WF Scott bought Mr. Mayes' interest and the style of the firm became Lakin & Scott. Mr. Scott, while in business the first time for himself, has had some 12 years experience as clerk principally in general merchandise; he served one year January 1900 to Jauary 1902 as clerk for Mayes & Lakin, at the end of that time purchasing a half interest in the business. The firm is well known and widely advertised as "The Hardware Family." -kbz
